unspoken love

In that frozen moment between us, Your kiss, a sparrow's touch - casual, light - Has torn my careful walls to dust. Why plant this seed on a barren night?
I had crafted my forgetting, Trained my skin not to remember men. But my fortress of absence - Elaborate setting - Collapsed under your scent…
Your cheek against mine, sandpaper ghost, Your cologne smells of cedar and smoke. I've become a ridiculous creature, I’m lost, Undone by what you never spoke.
There is nothing between us - A fact carved in stone, brutal and bare. Yet my treacherous heart pounds With ancient rhythms… Why do I care?!..
I stand by my window, lunar-faced, While this nothing expands and fills rooms. My tears roll down, evenly paced, For a future that may never bloom.
Why does emptiness weigh so much? Why does memory cut like glass? I am haunted not by what is, But by phantoms that cannot last.
